Dinner and Denim

August 13, 2013

I'm kind of obsessed with this Mynt1792 chambray top. I've worn it more than anything else this summer, and will probably continue to do so throughout the fall. I just can't get enough of it. It's comfortable, nicely buttons over "the girls" and my stomach, and pretty much goes with almost anything in my wardrobe, including this skirt by City Chic. I wore this outfit to dinner last night with my grandma and DC. We had such a great time at Cool Hand Luke's, a western-themed saloon. DC even said I dressed perfectly for the occasion; all I needed were a pair of cowgirl boots for my outfit to be complete.

On a personal note, I'm so grateful to spend time with my grandma. As my only living grandparent, I cherish our moments together and value her company, advice, and unconditional love. I'm also lucky that she knows how to have fun. Give this woman a margarita and live Mariachis and she becomes the life of the party. (Now you know where my love of martinis stems from.) Anyway, I just wanted to share how much I love my grandma and this chambray top and skirt. What item have you worn the most this summer? Share in a comment and take care!

High on Vegas

October 25, 2012

It's been a few days since I returned from Vegas and I already want to go back. I had the time of my life celebrating my cousin Vanessa's bachelorette party. We laughed (a lot), danced (a lot), drank (a lot), shopped (not enough), and enjoyed a weekend without the boys.

My favorite part of the trip was Saturday night at Marquee inside the Cosmopolitan, the chicest and most luxurious casino/hotel in the city. The club alone was amazing, but the EC Twins were beyond words. Their energy radiated through their beats and interaction with the crowd.

The happiness I felt from their music was unlike anything I've ever felt in my life. Add to that: replies on twitter and facebook from the boys themselves; yeah, my life is made. Even as I write this post, I'm dancing in my chair listening to their newest mix on iTunes. I'm on a serious Vegas high and I don't want to come down.

Until next week, friends,

Stay fashionable!

P.S. I'm vlogging now! Capturing bits of my every day life has turned into quite the addiction. Check out my Fashion, Love, & Vlogs playlist and subscribe to my channel for more videos.

The Summer of Instagram

August 02, 2012

Hey, guys and gals. Remember me? Long time, no post, I know! I've spent most of my summer working, which explains the horrible lack of blogging and tweeting. Work never gets in the way of Instagram, though. (Maybe I should apply this logic to blogging, too.) I always find some way to snap a picture and share it. Granted, it's usually a picture of my accessories, drink, or food, it's something worth sharing -- at least I'd like to think so. Follow me on instagram @amanda_allison if any of snapshots below tickle your fancy. See you next week with a new blog post!

What have you been up to this summer?

Springtini

April 19, 2011

If there was ever an event fit for my blog, it would be this one. Each spring, a group of local businesses have a Springtini: a night of shopping, fashion (including shows for women and men), music, food sampling, wine tastings, and signature martinis. You know what makes Springtini even better? Each ticket comes with five martinis or beers of your choice. Yeah, I was in martini heaven.

I felt so glamourous that night, probably the most glam I've ever felt it my life. My makeup was perfect, my hair naturally wavy, and I wore a fantastic dress (City Chic Rachel Maxi dress) and fun accessories, including my new hat from Forever 21. I have to say, I looked pretty damn good that night. There were plenty of straight-size girls wearing maxi dresses, but I stood out from the crowd by a long shot. Now whether it was because of my weight or my outfit, I will never know. But I do know an impression was made, and it was a fabulous one at that.

Complete outfit pictures coming soon!

Fashionable in Fresno

October 15, 2010

Let's be honest; Fresno isn't known for its fashion. When most think of the fifth largest city in California, agriculture, hot summer weather, and national jokes come to mind. Haven't we, the Central Valley, had enough of the jokes and poor recognition? Fresno is more than vineyards and farm animals. Fresno can be fashionable, too.
Enter Fashion Style Lounge. I've supported and participated in all six FSLs, and the most recent was no exception. My friend Amanda and I held a tweetup within the event for Fresno Twitter.com users (learn more about that here). It was great to meet local Tweeps and surrounded ourselves with fashion from independent designers and local boutiques. There were also runway shows, one inspired by man and animal and another featuring designs from Parris Harris, that proved Fashion Style Lounge truly is Fresno's "alternative fashion event."
Please contact me if you live in Fresno or Central California Valley and are planning a fashion event of any kind! I'd love to learn more about your plans and contribute in any way possible. I want to make Fresno more than just a joke on late night television. I want to make Fresno fashionable.

Fashion, Love, and Vegas

August 26, 2010

Hi! I'm back from my birthday weekend getaway. I would've updated sooner but it took a while to recover from my celebration. Let's just say nursing a hangover in a car for seven hours is not fun! I still had the time of my life, despite one too many shots of Belvedere. I spent the weekend shopping, drinking (obviously), and enjoying my last days as a twenty-four year old (side note: thank you all for the birthday wishes! You made my birthday even better.).
If you've read my blog for a while, you may remember my Forever Young post, in which I openly described my scares about turning a quarter-century. Well, its safe to say those fears are long gone. I now realize this new year of life can only enhance who I am and the opportunities that lie ahead. Turning twenty-five is not so bad after all.

A Night of Fashion, Love, and Martinis

May 02, 2010

I recently received an e-mail asking why I named my blog Fashion, Love, and Martinis. I'm really happy someone asked because I've always wondered if any of you have thought the same thing! Fashion, Love, and Martinis is more than just plus-and-straight-size fashion. Its also about events with family and friends, where there's almost a 100% chance you'll spot me with a martini, and my love/hate relationship with my health and body. My blog is a record of my life and aspirations to become the successful woman I know I am meant to be.

Today's post is a perfect example of my blog name! On April 22nd I spent the night immersed in fashion, love, and martinis at the Fashion Style Lounge in Fresno, California. My friend and mentor Falina Marihart created the fashion and beauty event in response to the Central Valley's growing talent. I love going to FSL because it really is one big, fashionable party. You can shop from local designers, get beauty tips/service from beauty pros, dance, eat, and drink all in one spot. Its also a great place to meet new people and network, which is crucial if you want to make your mark in the fashion industry.

P.S. Today I reached 200 followers on Google Friend Connect! I can't begin to tell you how happy and surprised I was when I saw that number. I hope you are enjoying the blog because you are all a big reason why I continue to update. Thank you all so much for following, reading, and commenting!

I'm the Birthday Girl!

August 23, 2009

I'd like to announce that its my birthday, also known as the day the world because a little more fabulous! I don't have time to write much (must finish math HW then get ready for sushi!) so here's a few pics from last night's birthday bash. Love you guys and thank you for all the support and birthday wishes!

Fashion Style Lounge

January 25, 2009

Thursday night was a night of networking, champagne, shopping, and dope music. The Fashion Style Lounge, held at EKO Marketing & Design in Fresno, CA, was another success.Various private labels including Simdog Apparel were there to showoff and sell their latest designs. Accessory designers like POParrazi, Make Pie Not War, and Dalita Moda were in attendance as well as beauty gurus like The Loft salon and The Wax Bar. Even The Makeover Project had a space at the party so I got to show & tell fashionable people just what we're all about.
