Mi Abuelita

"Vino 'Manda." My abuela uttered those two words last week. Little did I know that was the last time she would mention me. I saw her not too long ago while she was in and out of sleep, fighting the morphine injected into her body. She was sick for most of 2010, but her condition reached a peak in late July. Doctors claimed she had two weeks to live, but she, being the strong and stubborn woman I know, surpassed those fourteen days with much strength.
It's now October, and the resilience my abuela once had no longer exists. After a year long fight with illness and pain, she concluded her battle last night at the age of eighty nine. My abuela was strong, resourceful, always loving woman. She was a wife to my abuelo, a mother to six boys and two girls, a grandmother to many, many, many grandchildren, and a business woman.
I will miss her never-ending rants, red painted nails, and bright colored dresses. I will miss seeing her on the porch and waving hello the most. She was one of many cornerstones in my large Mexican family. She will forever be treasured.

  13. My condolences! I know how hard it is to lose a grandparent. My grandfather died earlier this year after a short illness. At least at the age of 89 she lived a long and fulfilled life!
We can all hope to be so lucky!
My thought are with you and your family:)
