I don't watch much on BET anymore. Their content is lacking and 106 & Park has never been the same since AJ and Free! Despite all that, I never miss their annual fashion show Rip The Runway. Its similar to MTV's past runway/music show Fashionably Loud (I think that was the name of it) except BET's version features more urban wear, models with curves, and gorgeous black men.
Hosted by actress Joy Bryant and the very fine Derek Luke, Rip The Runway fused urban fashion with some of today's popular names in Hip Hop and R&B. Models walked the runway alongside performers like T.I., Bobby V., Keri Hilson, Busta, and more. Among the 6 featured designers, Korto Momolu and Monif C. were my favorites.
Korto Momolu, known for her time on Project Runway, presented a collection of feminine, colorful, and empowering pieces. Each look emphasized the waist with beautiful construction, rouching, and drape.
